A lot of people are calling about the storm in the Gulf and asking about whether or not it will affect their swimming with manatee in Crystal River. At the moment it is a little SE of Miami but all predictions show Tropical Storm Bonnie moving NW up the Gulf toward the Deepwater Horizon and the Louisiana coast. It really doesn’t look like it will cause us to cancel any manatee tours or hurt us in finding them. Nor should it move any oil in our direction.
We are predicted to have a decent chance of scattered thunderstorms every day for the next 10 days, but we go out on our manatee snorkeling tours at 6:15 in the morning and t’storms then are uncommon. In a given year we may have to simply postpone one or two trips for a few minutes to an hour, but we rarely need to cancel them. The tours are fun anyway, the boat’s covered, and we’re all going into the water anyway.
Another thing I’ve been asked is if the storm is going to affect anyone’s flight or other travel plans. It sure doesn’t look like it will. The storm is simply too far away and moving away from us.
All in all, it may be damp for the next week, but that’s Florida. Come on down and enjoy snorkeling with the manatee with us!
